As the Pulp and Paper industry has changed its phase from art to science, multiple challenges have emerged. Compounded by environmental conservation efforts, shortage of raw materials, higher waste paper recycling, and water closure, the challenges became manifolds. We, at Epygen, are striving to provide unique enzymatic solutions to Pulp and Paper industry in a customized manner.

Name : Papyrase® OCR

Description
Multicomponent Fiber modifying Enzyme produced by controlled fermentation of Fungi, for typical OCC furnish used in Containerboard making.

Enzymatic Containerboard Making from OCC
As OCC passes through repeated circulation process of rehydration and drying, the molecular alignment of cellulose chain alters itself, presenting an obstacle for further rehydration. Contaminants such as adhesives, coatings, glues, binders etc., that enter the mill furnish also increases. These materials become incorporated into the pulp slurry and are called “stickies”.
ENZOLASE OCR is a specially developed Lipolytic Hemicellulase Enzyme that would simultaneously control sticky and develop recycled hornified OCC pulp.

  • Reduce stickies related breaks at paper machine (dryers & calendrers) and winder.
  • Reduce linting/fluff at pre-dryer section.
  • Reduce tackiness & agglomeration properties of stickies material and keep in disperse form.
  • Improve inter-fiber bonding by enhancing fibrillation.
  • Improve swelling of hornified fiber in absence of mechanical refining.
  • Improve paper properties like Tensile and Burst.

Papyrase® OCR — Stickies & Fluff Control | Epygen Labs
US patented technology

Stop losing OCC runs to stickies and fluff.

Papyrase® OCR is a multicomponent lipolytic hemicellulase that disperses stickies and rebuilds fibre bonding in hornified recycled furnish — in one enzymatic step, without extra mechanical refining.

Product overview

Papyrase® OCR

Produced by controlled fermentation of fungi, purpose-built for containerboard makers running OCC-heavy furnish.

Enzymatic containerboard making

Built for the OCC recycling loop

As OCC passes through repeated cycles of rehydration and drying, the molecular alignment of the cellulose chain alters, resisting further rehydration — a process known as hornification. Contaminants such as adhesives, coatings, glues and binders accumulate in the pulp slurry as “stickies.” Papyrase® OCR is formulated to control stickies and develop hornified OCC pulp simultaneously.

The problem it solves

Every rehydration cycle stiffens the fibre — and loosens your runnability

Papyrase® OCR intervenes at the point where hornification and stickies formation both begin, restoring swelling capacity without added mechanical refining.

OCC intake recovered fibre Repulping cycle hornification builds Papyrase® OCR disperses stickies, swells hornified fibre Paper machine fewer breaks, less lint
Performance

What changes at the machine

Benefits grouped by where they show up — on the machine, in the fibre, and in the finished sheet.

01

Machine runnability

  • Reduces stickies-related breaks at dryers, calenders and winder
  • Reduces linting and fluff at the pre-dryer section
02

Fibre & contaminant control

  • Reduces tackiness and agglomeration, keeping stickies dispersed
  • Improves swelling of hornified fibre without mechanical refining
03

Sheet quality

  • Improves inter-fibre bonding through enhanced fibrillation
  • Improves tensile and burst strength
